The Girls Advocacy Alliance Project (2016 to 2020)
YACAN and Plan International Sierra Leone are jointly implementing the Girl Advocacy Alliance Project in the Western Area Urban and Rural and Moyamba District. The goal of the projects is to increase public support for girls and young women to have equal access to post primary education, entrepreneurship opportunities and the elimination of child marriage, teenage pregnancy, Underage Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other forms of violence on girls and young women.
The project started on the 1st July 2016 and it will end on the 30th December 2020. It aims at reaching 4,000 girls and young women of which 60% of the beneficiaries are expected to be reach by YACAN in the Western Area.
The project is currently working with 10 Junior Secondary Schools and 6 Ebola Affected communities in the Western Area. The Project has establish 6 community support clubs for Girls with about 300 young women and Gils that support their peers with information to raised awareness and also work with their community leaders to represent and advocate on the rights and education of girls.

The project is very strategic in the advocacy for girls and young women in Sierra Leone as it has establish strong working relationship with the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs, National Children’s Commission Sierra leone -NCC, Freetown City Council, Council of Traditional Leaders in the Western Area and the Child Right Collision of Sierra Leone.
YACAN is an Implementing Partner to Plan International Sierra Leone and also working Closely with Defence For Children International a project Alliance members, the Project is funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Netherlands.
